The engagement combined health education, digital self-assessment and practical screening, reaching approximately 150 women with key services and information. It provided an opportunity to bring conversations about cancer, hypertension and diabetes into a familiar community settingโand to help participants turn awareness into personal action.
A warm welcome and a call to care for our mothers
Fr. Patrick, the CWA Chaplain for Ruiru Deanery and Parish Priest of St. Augustine Parish, warmly welcomed the My Wellness Health team. He encouraged the team to support the women in taking an active role in their health through greater awareness, preventive screening and timely medical attention.
Reflecting on his pastoral experience, Fr. Patrick shared that he had witnessed mothers who appeared healthy become seriously unwell within a short period. His remarks brought a personal and compassionate perspective to the dayโs message: caring for our mothers means helping them prioritise their own wellbeing alongside the care they give to others.

Erick Makatiani , Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of My Wellness Health , opened the session by introducing the organisationโs approach to preventive healthcare .He explained how My Wellness Health uses digital questionnaires to help people assess their health risks, understand their responses and access guidance on appropriate next steps. The platform is designed to make the journey from awareness to action easier, including connecting users to health facilities for further assessment and care. At the heart of his introduction was a practical idea: people should be able to take an active role in their wellbeing before a health concern begins to disrupt their daily lives. The engagement also distinguished questionnaire-based risk assessment from clinical screening and diagnosis. Digital self-assessment provides a starting point for understanding risk and seeking appropriate care; it does not establish whether someone has cancer or another condition.

Sylvia then led the health education session, explaining the importance of understanding cancer, hypertension and diabetes and taking personal initiative towards preventive care. Her presentation encouraged participants to move beyond simply hearing health messages and consider what those messages meant for their own lives.
The discussion covered breast cancer awareness, the importance of appropriate screening, and the value of knowing personal blood pressure and blood sugar readings. The emphasis was on making preventive health understandable and relevant: knowing what to pay attention to, seeking guidance when concerned, and following through on recommended assessments. For My Wellness Health, this is an essential part of community engagement. Information becomes more useful when people understand how to act on it and where to seek support.

In his closing remarks, Allan Mengesa , Founder and Chief Executive Officer of My Wellness Health, connected preventive health to the everyday realities of family life.He spoke about the financial and emotional strain that illness and repeated hospital visits can place on households. His message encouraged participants to see preventive care as an investment in their wellbeing and their familiesโ future.
He also highlighted the broader purpose of caring for oneโs health: being able to enjoy life, remain present for loved ones and participate in the activities that give life meaning. Prevention was presented as a continuing commitment to wellbeing, with timely attention to health concerns at its centre.
